The Contest Brief

Contest Holder Name:  hunterlecompte

Company Name: The Afterlife Studio

Company Slogan:

Description and What We Do: Art studio that uses industrial and natural materials like sheets of scrap metal and live edge slabs of wood to create large and small-scale installation art. Most of the materials used in the art were intended to be scrapped, recycled or destroyed. In an unlikely twist of fate, each of these pieces of material has been spared from almost certain destruction and transformed into colorful installation art. The art is very large in some cases and is prepared by a team of artisan metal workers, artichetcs and concept artists. This product is considered fine art and it is expensive.

Industry Type: Art and Photography

Top Three Things To Communicate Through Our Logo Design:

#1 Adaptive re-use - there is a circle of life feel to this kind of concept art. Using something that has been repurposed creatively. would be interested to see a visual example of adaptation or repurpos

#2 Concept Art - this art is most often displayed in large scale installations in pubic areas such as adaptive re-use public parks. This concept was inspired by the famous High Line park in New York Cit

#3 Expensive - This art ranges in price from expensive to breathtakingly expensive. The logo needs to reflect a high quality product

Our Target Audience:

luxury consumers and interior design firms. Although the intent is to have broad appeal in the USA, much of the target audience is in New York City

We Like These Colors:

Open to any color or black&white / grayscale. The art is produced in a broad range of colors - in some cases, there are some pretty wild colors but color in the logo is not a requirement. would like to incorporate some kind of variation of the image of the impossible star or tri-bar https://www.google.com/search?q=impossible+star&rlz=1C1NHXL_enUS756US756&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjShr3Kma3aAhVsm-AKHYIEAIAQ_AUICigB&biw=1920&bih=965 The impossible star has been an inspiration for The Afterlife Studio - this shape is similar to the impossible tri-bar featured in MC Escher's Belvedere https://www.google.com/search?q=mc+escher+belvedere&rlz=1C1NHXL_enUS756US756&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjMzOrmmq3aAhVFGt8KHS3JB3gQsAQIJg&biw=1920&bih=1014#imgrc=iqEmgQyTzmtv2M: the shape can only exist in 2-D - thus it is the impossible tri-bar. The impossible star is the same concept. Would be interested to see an MC Escher-like style. THe metal art installations are very geometric and I have uploaded photos to show what an installed piece looks like.

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR DESIGNERS

As the competition draws to a close I wanted to give an updated to let you designers know where things stand. This is very difficult to decide as there are several artists who are really pushing the bar ever higher! It is anyone’s game at this point.

We would like to see bright color variations of the logos for comparison. We are seriously considering a few logos because the designs are really good however we do want more color.

This close and may come down to color variations of the logo.

Huge thanks to all of the very talented artists who are competing – very impressive … we shall soon see who will win. We intend to decide VERY quickly after the contest closes!

A NOTE ON COLOR AND TECHNIQUES:

Although we do like black and white we are curious to see what color logos might work. We really are drawn to color channel text
https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1NHXL_enUS756US756&biw=1920&bih=1014&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=NELSWoGeBOexggeC_4vQDA&q=color+channels+&oq=color+channels+&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0l2j0i30k1j0i24k1l7.13939.13939.0.14743.1.1.0.0.0.0.79.79.1.1.0....0...1.1.64.psy-ab..0.1.79....0.winuMjGrM6M#imgrc=YDccRghMlYngtM:

We do like using the text as the design and are open to logos that would use font as illustration or techniques like sliced text or deconstruction of text to form a design.

UPDATE FOR ALL DESIGNERS some really compelling concepts have emerged over the last 12 hours and we are really becoming interested to see more compact text-only logo submissions. There are a few that have already broken Afterlife into 2 words (after life) for the sake of making the image more compact. It also gives the opportunity to tie more of the letters together. We like that a lot.

Still open to ANY submission – blank slate is still open. WOULD BE INTERESTED TO SEE SOMEONE TAKE THIS IN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT DIRECTION. There are several great concepts in the competition already and we are most appreciative of all of the hard work that has gone into these thoughtful and creative submissions. Many thanks!!

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR ALL DESIGNERS - The concepts are really getting closer to the core of what we have been visualizing. Huge thanks to all designers who have been working really hard to push the conceptual limits for contest submissions. Text only is starting to emerge as the most compelling and as a concept that presents the most visual unity. Being creative with the text is what has really driven up interest in the last 12 hours. We are selling an expensive product and striking the right balance between playful and elegant is something we are weighing.

At this point in the competition, we would like to open the parameters a bit. Up to this point, we have given some pretty tailored feedback about the visual and conceptual requirements for the design. Artists often open and unlock unexpected ideas and concepts that take you by surprise (in a good way) and we are curious to see what other visual concepts could be considered. Let us stress that we certainly like the direction the competition is headed in and are VERY interested in a few of the concepts however we do not want to pigeonhole and restrict the creative process.

Given the history of this competition and the evolution of general feedback we have provided in the general post section all designers should feel free to submit any concept they feel works well for what we have been discussing. All text, no text - whatever. any concept welcome. We are looking for perspective and to extract ourselves from the creative process requirements at this time. This is a blank slate - and authorization to color outside the lines if you like. Curious to see what concepts are out there.

As a general note for all new designers joining this contest we want to give some general comments about the elements in the contests that are the most interesting for us. We will be most drawn to concepts that combine Escher-like shapes woven into a logo that is both image and text appearing as one picture that is half object or shape/half text instead of an image of an object or shape next to the text. We want to weave the actual text into the shape incorporated as lettering where possible. The visual concept in a few of the submissions are very good and the overall direction of the contest is headed the right way. Many thanks to each of the talented artists who have been pushing the boundaries of this concept!

For designers who are joining the competition, I would like to share some general comments about the direction of the concept. We like the visual look of the shapes we are seeing and would like to visually tie the text to the shapes, perhaps using shapes to form the actual letters of the text. The impossible star or impossible tri-bar as referenced in the "we like these colors" section has been an inspiration largely because of the concept of the illusion.

It is important to note that we are not so much interested in a specific shape - rather it is the “impossible” appearance that we like. This is evident in shapes like the impossible star as well as the impossible tri-bar and if other shapes can be used with the same effect it would be of interest. Many thanks to all of the designers who have thoughtfully submitted ideas already – seems that there are a few concepts that are emerging that are really good!

I have posted an image of a logo that I have for another business in the images section. It is a travel business that sells personalized travel programs. The initials LT are used to create the image of a suitcase. We want the logo of The Afterlife Studio to be taken seriously, however, this kind of visual playfulness does seem clever and thoughtful on a conceptual level. A personalized logo of a suitcase for a company that sells personalized travel. Would like to see the image of an impossible shape such as an impossible star or impossible tri-bar as mentioned in the "we like these colors" section.

There is a reference to an image file that contains images of the installation art in the "we like these colors" section, however, I was unable to upload the pdf file containing the images. A help inquiry has been submitted and this will hopefully be resolved shortly.

Welcome and Thank You for Choosing LogoContest.com!

Here are some helpful hints to make sure you get the most out of our site, and your contest.

DO NOT FINALIZE YOUR CONTEST UNTIL ALL REVISIONS ARE MADE AND THE EXACT DESIGN YOU WANT IS SHOWING AND RANKED #1.

1. Please rank your submissions or post general comments a minimum of 1 time per day while your contest is running. This is required should you want to request an extension to your contest and will produce the best results from our designers.

2. Once your contest receives 40 design concepts, your prize amount will become "Guaranteed".

3. Please make the most out of our messaging and comment systems.

a) Place general comments on this main contest page to give all of the designers your preferences and what you would like to see or not see.

b) Clicking on any designers submssion will bring up a page of all submissions by that designer with an option to post private comments pertaining only to his work. (Only the contest Holder and that designer can view and post to this page)

c) Clicking on the designer username under a submission will allow you to send a completely private message to that specific designer.

4. Please "Eliminate" only those logo designs that you feel have no chance of winning your contest. (Be aware that eliminating everything may discourage participation from the designers.)

5. Please rank the designs 1 to 10 and there are also options to rank Elements you like, Colors you like, and Fonts you like. This will help guide the designers toward the design that you are looking for. For the best variety of designs, try not to keep the same design ranked #1 for an extended time as this may result in copying of that design.

6. We require that you do not ask one Designer to use elements or concepts from another Designer. The general rule is that, if a Designer was the first to use and submit the idea in one of their designs, they essentially own that concept or idea for the remainder of the contest. We will remove any deisgns that use copied concepts. Requests or ideas you have put in your Contest Brief or posted as contest attachments are fair game and open to everyone. Concepts that are considered obvious will also be fair game, for example: a dog & cat for a pet hospital, shopping bag for an e-commerce company, a tooth for a dentist, initials for a lawyer, etc.

7. Once your contest ends and is in judging mode, any designer that is ranked #1 #2 #3 #4 or #5 will be able to upload any revisions you request. Simply rank a designers entry to allow revisions to be uploaded.

Discussion Guidelines:

1. Designers and Contest Holders please always be respectful of each other, we all have the same goal.

2. Please do not criticize any design publicly, these discussions should only be held in private.

3. Designers may not post any external links to any designs.

4. Please do not ask a contest holder to view your designs or discuss any other designs.

5. Designers can not discuss copied designs on the contest pages and may submit a Logo Dispute to the Admin only.

Our team at LogoContest.com as well as our designers will make sure you are 100% satisfied and want you to leave here with a design that you love!

Please recommend us to your friends and business associates for all of their logo design and web page design needs.
